• RankMath: Rank Math is a free WordPress SEO plugin that is crucial to use if you plan on ranking your websites on Google or any other search engine. Another popular option is Yoast SEO. Yoast has been around much longer but is not as user-friendly. We use Rank Math because of it’s clean and intuitive interface.
• Breeze: Breeze is a WordPress caching plugin. If you aren’t familiar with the term cache, caching is the process of saving data temporarily in a browser so that the information doesn’t have to download every time a page on the website is loaded. In other words, it makes websites significantly faster. Breeze is one of the best caching plugins on the market.
• Wordfence: WordPress websites are targets for malicious attacks, that’s why having the proper security measures in place is imperative. Wordfence is one of the best WordPress security plugins available, and you should install it on just about most WordPress websites.

In addition to the camera, you will need to have good audio. Video is only 50% of the watching experience. The other half is the audio, so you will want to invest in the right mic.

Here’s a list of equipment you will need to start podcasting:

• Computer: Unless you plan on recording onto your phone or tablet, you’ll need a computer that can support the recording software you will use. Your computer also needs to have support for the correct ports to manage an external mic and headphones.
• Microphone: If you’re serious about having a high-quality podcast that attracts many new listeners, then you’ve got to invest in a decent microphone. It doesn’t matter how beautiful and smooth your voice is, if you are using a cheap mic, the recording quality will be poor and you will lose listeners.
• Pop filter: A pop filter or pop screen is a circular mesh filter that goes between your mouth and the mic to help reduce popping noises. Popping noises usually occur when you say certain words starting with p and b.
• Headphones: Hearing yourself is essential to recording good audio, and it’s not enough just to use those cheap white earbuds that came with your iPhone. Two things you should never cut corners with if you want to record the best audio—your mic and your headphones.
• Recording & editing software: The last thing you’ll need is recording software. While you can use free software that comes on your computer, such as Apple’s GarageBand, using professional recording software like Pro Tools will give you a lot more recording and post-recording options.

With all of these items, the last thing you’ll need is a dedicated space in your home that is quiet.

Find a quiet room away from all the usual daily commotion, and set up your podcast “studio” there.

6. Become an influencer on Instagram

Instagram has created many millionaires.

Here are some crucial tips to ensuring your renting out experience goes smoothly:

• Go the extra mile to make your guest’s accommodations superb

I built a website once for an online personal trainer named Dean. He was making $5,000+ each month only working between 5 – 10 hours a week.

If you are passionate about fitness, or perhaps you are already a personal trainer or fitness coach at a gym, then you should consider extending your services online.

Becoming an online trainer or fitness coach is an excellent way to make money online from home.

I learned a lot from building Dean’s website about what it takes to be an online personal trainer or fitness coach. I will share that knowledge with you now.

• You’ve got to have a great website: Dean had me develop a custom website for him. However, you can get away with using a user-friendly website builder platform like Wix to create your website. Alternatively, you can use a service like Fiverr and have someone else create a website for you at a very affordable price.
• You’ve got to be able to receive money online: Many fitness trainers take cash from their clients after a workout. This method won’t work if you want to use online coaching as a way to make money online from home. You have to set up a way to have clients pay you online. There are probably hundreds of services that you can use nowadays—Cash App, Venmo, PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay. Choose one, or pick a couple of them, and have your clients pay you through an app instead.
• You’ve got to have systems in place: Dean had a system for how he tracked his client’s fitness progress, eating habits, calorie count, and many other things. He had a system for everything. If you are working from home, you have to be comfortable using services like Google Drive, DocuSign, Slack, and Skype to communicate and track progress for your clients.

If you can get all of these things in place, then there is no reason you can’t be successful as an online personal trainer or fitness coach.

11. Start an online agency

When I was working as a full-time web developer freelancer, there would be months where I had 30+ open contracts.

While this is an excellent problem to have, it wasn’t ideal in terms of scalability. I was limited in how much income I could earn because there are only so many hours in a day that I can work.

Maybe you’re in that same boat. Or, perhaps you don’t even want to get in that boat and instead would rather find a way to scale immediately.

Whether you are already working with clients or have not started, starting an online agency can be a great way to make money online from home.

How to start an online agency

First, you have to decide what your agency will do.

Are you a web development agency, marketing, design? What does your agency do?

Once you’ve decided on that, you will have to begin finding new clients.

There are so many websites you can use to find new clients. Sites like Upwork and Fiverr are great places to start.

Use these websites to book new clients while simultaneously building your agency team.

For example, if you are a web development agency, post a job on Upwork titled Looking for web developers to join my agency. You will get a ton of proposals to join your agency.

Then, when you start getting new clients, you can begin assigning those jobs to your team members or other freelancers.

The bulk of your work will be just finding new clients. Other than that, you are sitting back and letting the money roll into your bank account.

12. Buy an existing website

Buying an existing website can be a great way to supercharge your success.

Keep in mind, however, that buying an existing website is an investment. Therefore, you should treat it as such.

I don’t know if you’ve ever invested in anything, but when you invest, you do so with the intent to make more money back.

Don’t just buy any site that you see on Flippa. Do your research, ask plenty of questions, and make sure that the website you are buying aligns with your passions and end goals.

Software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator make creating serif and sans serif fonts a piece of cake.

And what about all of the jobs completed on Fiverr for illustrations and drawings? Creating illustrations is the most popular category on Fiverr.

You can also sell illustrations on websites like Creative Market and UI8.

I’ve personally purchased illustrations from both these websites. In fact, the illustrations on our homepage come from UI8.

I’ve also hired illustrators on Fiverr to create custom illustrations for me. My wife Courtney will likely hire an illustrator from Fiverr to illustrate her kid’s book that she’s been developing.

The best places to find jobs to design book covers will be on sites like Fiverr and Upwork.

You could attempt to sell book cover templates on sites like Creative Market. However, I’m not sure there is a big market for that.

That’s not to say you can’t still do it, but I certainly wouldn’t want you wasting your time on something that won’t pay off.

What makes designing album covers unique is that many musical artists prefer to have abstract artwork as their album cover.

Additionally, designing album covers can be a lot more lucrative than designing book covers.

So what does this mean for you if you’re interested in designing album covers as a way to make money online from home?

It means that you will likely need some artistic talent, especially when it comes to creating abstract pieces.

If you browse the album cover design section on Fiverr, you will see that many of the album cover examples are abstract. Not all of them—but most of them.

Creating abstract artwork will require specific tools as well—you won’t be able to use Canva for this.

You may be able to get away with only using software like Photoshop and Illustrator to create abstract art. However, if you want to take this seriously, you will likely need to invest in some real tools.

When I was developing websites full-time, I would turn down more than five jobs every day. These were people and companies coming to me, offering me money, which I had to turn down because I was too busy with other projects.

Stay consistent with it, and make it happen.

21. Design websites and mobile apps

Designing websites was one of the things I did last year to make $81,892.

I only focused on designing websites. However, you should be aware that if you have the skills (or willingness to learn the skills) to design both websites and mobile apps, then you should. Doing this will create more opportunities for you.

It’s vital that you understand there is a clear distinction between designing websites and developing them.

Designing them means using software like Sketch, Adobe XD, and other web design tools to create mockups of what the website would look like once developed.

Developing them means building them using a CMS like WordPress or custom HTML code.

I did a mixture of both.

However, if you do not know how to use WordPress or custom code a website, but you do have an eye for clean web design, then you can still make a lot of money.

The good thing about web design is that you can learn it fairly quickly.

Try taking a web design course on Skillshare. The course will likely last less than a week but supply you with a lifetime of knowledge that ends up earning you a lot of money.

When it comes to the software that you will need to design websites, there are a few that I would highly recommend and have used personally.

Finally, you will need to find web design and mobile app jobs.

I’ve completed well over 300 web design and web development jobs in the past two years alone, so when it comes to finding jobs, I know how to do it.

The absolute best place to find jobs for web and mobile app design is Upwork.

Most of my new clients come from Upwork. And those clients turn into long-term clients that then send referrals my way.

However, there are other places you can find work as well, such as:

If you enjoy reading comics, creating comic books, or comic book cartoons, then you should know that you can make money creating cartoons and comics for other people.

Once, as a birthday gift for my wife, I created a fully custom book for her. I wrote the book, hired someone on Fiverr to illustrate the book with cartoon characters, then used Adobe InDesign to put the book together.

There are a lot of people and even brands who need cartoons and comics created.

And like with most digital assets, you can sell cartoon and comic templates on websites like Creative Market and earn passive income in your sleep.

All you have to do is create and get paid. Society6 produces and fulfills the orders for customers on their end.

You can literally make money in your sleep.

That’s why designing infographics is a great way to make money online from home in 2020. There’s a high demand for them, and not many people designing them to meet that demand.

Unless you have experience creating infographics, you will likely need to learn how to create them first before you can start living the dream by working from home. For that, I would highly recommend Skillshare.

26. Sell your skills and services online

Finding ways to make money online from home sometimes requires a bit of creativity. It can also require you to push yourself out of your comfort zone.

There’s no excuse not to be able to find a way to make money online from home.

You can virtually make money doing just about anything online nowadays.

Dig deep and find out what skills you have. Figure out the services you can provide. What problems you can solve.

When I first left my tedious office job a couple of years ago, I had no idea I would find myself making money online from home.

Unless you missed it earlier, last year alone, I earned $81,892 working online from home as a WordPress web designer and developer.

I didn’t even know I was good at designing and developing websites. But I tried something, and it worked.

As I’ve repeated well over a dozen times in this post so far, because it bears repeating, there are so many online job websites that are used by hundreds of thousands of businesses. These businesses are seeking designers, artists, illustrators, developers, database experts, and all sorts of creatives to complete jobs for them.

There’s no excuse not to find a way to make money online from home in 2020.

If you don’t know what skills you have that you can use as a way to make money online from home, start trying things. You’ll be surprised to see that you have talent in some areas that you would have never guessed.

And once something catches—once you start making money from it—keep going.

I completed my very first couple of web development jobs for less than $100 each. My first ever web development job on Upwork was for $5. That’s right—I built an entire site for $5.

However, nowadays, I am turning down thousands of dollars a day in potential jobs, and I am earning thousands of dollars for every website I build.

There’s always a growing process in everything you do. It takes time. Don’t give up.

Writing

27. Write articles and blog posts for other websites

There are plenty of websites that will pay you to write for them—even if you don’t have a journalism degree.

Some sites will compensate you based on ad revenue generated per article written, and others will pay you a flat-rate per article accepted.

If you have a passion for writing but don’t want to start your own blog, then writing for other websites is an excellent path for you.

Here are several websites you can take a look at to get started:

• Greatist: Greatist is a blog that focuses on relationships, mental health, social media, technology, and career advice. Their target audience is primarily young adults between the age of 20 and 30. They pay out $125+ per article accepted.
• Longreads: Longreads pays the most out of any of these sites. However, they also expect longer posts between 800 and 6,000 words. On Longreads, you can pretty much write about anything. Your articles have a higher chance of being accepted if they are well-written and easy to follow and illustrate relatable human experiences. They pay a minimum of $250 and up to $1,500+ per article.
• Cracked: Cracked is a list-style article website that primarily focuses on pop-culture trends. For example, you will find articles such as The Actual Answers To 6 Famously Unsolved MovieTV Mysteries, or /26 Sexy Halloween Costumes That Shouldn’t Exist. If you enjoy writing about pop culture or humor, then writing for Cracked could be an option. The pay between $50 – $200 per post accepted.
• Listverse: Even if you’ve never heard of Listverse, you’ve likely seen their articles somewhere. They boast over 15 million readers monthly and focus only on top 10 lists. Not top 9 lists, not top 15 list—only top 10 lists. They pay out a flat $100 per article and have relatively easy guidelines for having articles approved.

These are just a few examples. Dozens of other sites will pay you for writing articles for them, just do some digging around on Google.

You can also use websites like Upwork to find smaller companies that are hiring writers for their blog. Some of these companies end up paying reasonably well, so it’s worth you taking a look.

28. Write resumes for professionals and college students

Writing resumes is a great way to make money online from home because there will always be someone looking for a job, which means there will always be a need for resumes.

This demand means there will always be a need for someone to write and edit resumes.

Additionally, thanks to sites like Creative Market, there are a ton of high-quality resumes templates that you can use to wow your clients.

As far as finding people who need resumes written or edited, I don’t expect you to go walking around your town asking people if they need a new resume. Instead, you can find a lot of work on sites like Upwork.

Writing resumes is another excellent way to make money online from home because if you’re consistent enough, you can end up with a lot of clients and referrals from clients that give you a lot of work.

29. Proofread and edit articles

If your English is phenomenal (or if you utilize a tool like Grammarly), then you can proofread and edit articles as a way to make money online from home.

Upwork is a great place to get started when trying to find jobs to proofread and edit articles.

I’ve personally helped build dozens of websites where the business owners need someone to proofread and make edits to website articles and other copy. There are endless opportunities out there.

Even if you don’t have stellar grammar skills, you can still utilize a free tool like Grammarly to turn your basic grammar skills into phenomenal skills and make money online from home proofreading and editing articles.

30. Proofread and edit books

Proofreading and editing books are very similar to the above point, proofreading and editing articles.

The same skillset applies. And you can even use a free tool like Grammarly to turn your average grammar skills into great ones.

The big difference between proofreading and editing articles versus books is that you will likely get more consistent work proofreading and editing books.

Additionally, your work will last much longer, which means you will be getting paid much more.

You could also accept work in both proofreading books and articles to ensure that you have a consistent pipeline of jobs and cashflow.

If you are great with grammar or are utilizing a tool like Grammarly, then there are many writing jobs you can take on websites like Upwork and Fiverr.

There are enough proofreading and editing jobs on these sites to keep you very busy. This demand makes proofreading and editing books (and articles like discussed above) an excellent way to make money online from home in 2020.

31. Translation

There are many people and businesses in need of translators.

Back when my wife and I started our first company after college, we used translators all the time to convert English copy into Spanish copy.

It’s wasn’t enough for us to use Google Translate. Google doesn’t understand subtle nuances in languages. You need a real human to do this job.

There’s a high demand for translators to translate confidential documents, books, articles, contracts, reports, training materials, health-related records, and much more.

You will find plenty of jobs on websites like Upwork and Fiverr to keep you busy and paid, making translating another great way to make money online from home.

32. Write sales copy

Writing sales copy is an art that requires practice. But if you are good at it, you will find yourself with more money in your bank than you know how to spend.

Sales copy attempts to persuade a reader to take a specific action. For example—buying a product, joining an email list, or downloading something free. You’ve likely seen examples of all of these.

Sales copy is used in emails, on websites, in brochures, and books. Anything that is trying to sell you something or get some type of information from you (like an email) will likely use sales copy.

If you already know how to write sales copy, then you will find a plethora of jobs on sites like Upwork and Fiverr.

33. Write press releases

A press release is a short, compelling news story usually about an event, new product, company, or other happening.

Press released are written in a particular format and delivered to the news media in an attempt to pique their interest.

Many businesses are turning away from public relations agencies for their press releases. Instead, they’re sending their money to websites like Fiverr and Upwork in search of talented writers who can write compelling press releases for them.

Just take a look at all the press release jobs here on Upwork. Some of these jobs pay well into the $1,000 mark for a single press release.

34. Write website content

Writing website content is another skill that is in high demand—you will find yourself with plenty of work.

Similar to writing sales copy (which we talked about a couple of points above), writing website content requires a certain level of skill. You have to be able to write persuasively.

An excellent example of a website that has world-class website content would be Apple.com. Their content is short and sweet, yet powerfully persuasive. Many companies have modeled after Apple’s website content.

There are also certain principles that you must understand when writing website content, for example:

• Write in short, simple sentences (like Apple.com)
• Make text scannable using bulleted or numerical lists, sections, and white space
• Use multimedia like images, infographics, or video
• Mix up your word choice

These are a few key examples of what makes website content great. It’s not enough to just start typing words on words. You have to understand what makes website content readable and be able to apply those principles.

The next step is to find the companies that are willing to hire you to write their website content.

The best place to start will be Upwork. On Upwork, you will find plenty of website content and website copy jobs posted daily. If you stay consistent and apply for these jobs, you will, undoubtedly, get offered a job.

Sure, he likely had some writing experience—enough to write a readable eBook. But plenty of people have adequate writing skills, but they don’t sell $1 million worth of books.

So, what was his secret?

His eBook was so helpful, so highly reviewed, that people just had to buy it to see what they were missing.

If this guy can do it, you can do it too.

Do you have experience or expertise in a particular area? If so, you should consider writing an eBook.

Take the time to research what makes an eBook great. Because other than providing a ton of value, there are other essential factors such as:

• The design of your eBook
• The color scheme
• How chapters are broken down

It can benefit you significantly to use a high-quality template, such as these.

Imagine if you earned $1 million in eBook sales. How would that change your life?

If you have something you believe is valuable that you can share with individuals, consider writing and selling an eBook as a way to make money online from home.

36. Write on Medium’s Partner Program

I often like to look at Medium as the Youtube of the blog world.

If you aren’t familiar with Medium.com, it’s a massive collection of blog posts by both amateurs and professionals.

Some people compare it to WordPress or Blogger. But, what makes Medium different is that the blog posts you write are hosted on Medium.com and help elevate the platform. Similar to how the videos you post on YouTube are hosted on YouTube.com.

When you use WordPress or Blogger, your blog posts are displaying on your unique website, which you choose from a template.

So now that you have an idea for what Medium is, I’ll tell you how you can make money off the site.

With Medium, users can read up to 3 articles per month.

If readers want to read more articles past that limit, they have to sign up for a $5 monthly subscription.

The more engagement an author gets on their articles, the more they get paid.

How do I join Medium’s Partner Program and begin making money?

• First, you must create a free account.
• Next, head over to the Medium creator’s page here and click the Join the Medium Partner Program button.
• Lastly, agree on the terms and then set up your payout method.

That’s it. It’s that simple.

Now it’s up to you to begin writing articles that provide value and solve problems. These are the articles that get the most engagements.

Also, don’t just write one post and expect to start making a boatload of money. Consistency is key to your success—this applies to everything you do in life.

Transcribe means turning audio or video speech into written or printed form—there are a lot of people hiring for this. It can also refer to turning data in images or videos into written form.

Courtney and I once hired a transcriber for one of our businesses. We used Upwork to find a freelancer. Her job was to transcribe data from hundreds of images into an organized Excel document.

I’ll be brutally honest with you—the job is not fun. It’s quite tedious. However, if you are the type of person who enjoys putting on some music and zoning into a task, then transcribing may be a perfect fit for you.

Depending on the people you work for, the job is straightforward and can pay well.

Another reason why transcribing is such a good way to make money online from home is because it doesn’t require many skills. As long as you have a computer and an internet connection, you can make money online from doing this job.

Here’s a list of equipment you will need:

• Computer: Unless you plan on recording onto your phone or tablet, you’ll need a computer that can support the recording software you will use. Your computer also needs to have support for the correct ports to manage an external mic and headphones.
• Microphone: If you’re serious about winning new clients and keeping your existing ones, then you’ve got to invest in a decent microphone. It doesn’t matter how beautiful and smooth your voice is, if you are using a cheap mic, the recording quality will be poor and you will lose clients.
• Pop filter: A pop filter or pop screen is a circular mesh filter that goes between your mouth and the mic to help reduce popping noises. Popping noises usually occur when you say certain words starting with p and b.
• Headphones: Hearing yourself is essential to recording good audio, and it’s not enough just to use those cheap white earbuds that came with your iPhone. Two things you should never cut corners with if you want to record the best audio—your mic and your headphones.
• Tablet: When you’re reading while recording, it’s essential to keep the noise levels down around you. If you are reading off your computer screen, then your mic will pick up on your computer fan and other noises. Tablets don’t make sounds.
• Recording & editing software: The last thing you’ll need is recording software. While you can use free software that comes on your computer, such as Apple’s GarageBand, using professional recording software like Pro Tools will give you a lot more recording and post-recording options.
